of Appraisers, but also has an accredited gemological laboratory and has served on the
Gems and Jewelry Committee. He is a senior member of the National Association of
Jewelry Appraisers. Mr. Krol has been a member of The International Society of
Appraisers since 1980 and is a past president of the Michigan Chapter.
In 1979 Mr. Krol was selected to be in Who’s Who in the Jewelry Industry by Jeweler’s
Circular-Keystone.
Mr. Krol’s appraisal service covers the spectrum from insurance appraisals to estate
appraisals, from retail replacement to divorce settlement, and from establishing fair market
value for the Internal Revenue Service to private consultations on diamonds and colored
stone sales.
Jim considers one of the highlights of his career thus far to be his work in the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia when he was selected to establish a gemological testing laboratory there and
appraised jewelry for the Royal Family.

James R. Krol received his Bachelor of Science Degree
from Lawrence Technological University in 1969. Mr.
Krol has been in the jewelry business for thirty-eight
years and has worked as a retail jeweler, diamond
merchant, and a loose colored stone salesman. For
the last twenty-nine years he has been a
Gemologist/Appraiser for his own firm, Birmingham
Gemological Services, Ltd., in Birmingham, Michigan.
Jim received his Graduate Gemologist diploma from the
Gemological Institute of America in 1977. He is a past
Regional Governor of the Accredited Gemologists
Association. He is a current member of the Alumni
Association of the G.I.A. and past president of his state
chapter. Mr. Krol is not only a Master Gemologist
Appraiser and Senior Member of the American Society
